Tail Running

Based on member feedback at our August 2023 AGM the Committee implemented a Tail Running program for our weekly 4 mile runs.

Having a tail runner ensures there is a runner with experience of the route and can provide support for runners. The tail runner will notify Coaches and Run Leaders when all 4 mile runners have returned.

Tailing running is provided by members on a volunteer basis. We ask for volunteers a week in advance. With busy lives, tail runners on the night may change but your run Lead/Coach will identify the tail runner.

Roles of the tail runner

Your role is to encourage members running at the tail of the group, and to help in making sure everyone gets back safely

You MUST carry you phone and get the number of the session coach (CIRF/LIRF) before the run starts.

Should any issue arise, a runner falls, or a runner is injured, please ensure you contact the session coach as soon as possible.

The coach for the session will have chosen the route, and risk assessed the route on that day. The coach will have ultimate responsibility for everyone’s safety on the run. The tail runner does not have any responsibilities.

To avoid confusion, please ensure you review the route for the session. If you have any questions, please reach out to your coach.

Once you finish your tail run, please contact the session coach and let them know you are back.

If you cannot volunteer on a specific evening, please contact the coach.
