29/8/21 Club have day to remember at Antrim Coast Half Marathon

The return of the Antrim Coast Half Marathon on Sunday (29th) will be a day to be remembered for six distance debuts, 12 well deserved PBs; a new Club record; and the long awaited enjoyment of a mass participation live event.

Many congratulations to Chris Hopkins on his fantastic run finishing in a superb 1:11:31, to reset the previous record set in 2009 (also at Larne Half) by 5 minutes!

28 & 29/8/21 Personal Bests at Last One Standing, Florence Court

On Saturday(28/8) Sarah Kinnear, Lyn Hardie, Patricia Hamill and David Hamill myself headed to Fermanagh to take part in Atlas Runnings Florence Court event. Lyn and Trish were event debutants, while Sarah and David didn’t learn from their previous experience and went back for more punishment!

The runners were fortunate with the weather, even if it was a little on the warm side for running!  As usual Atlas put on a great well organised event and everyone got stuck in, producing fantastic performances on what is a fairly demanding course.  Special mention to Sarah, who ran 24 loops (24 hours) to join the events exclusive 100 Mile Club.

9/8/21 County Antrim Harriers Memorial Run

On Monday 9th August, County Antrim Harriers turned out in force for a Memorial Club Run, from Ballyclare to Doagh and return, in memory of their esteemed member Raymond Hilman who sadly passed away in June.
Raymond was not only a much loved Club Member and Coach, he was a dear friend, a true gentleman, and respected mentor. He was influential in the running journey of many of our members both past and present; as he had a passion in developing new runners and encouraging others to achieve new distance goals.
Raymond was also known to the wider running community as the “man behind the camera” at the Sixmile ParkRun, encouraging a smile rather than a grimace on the final incline!
Raymond will be very much missed by Club members but his guidance and influence will continue. The turnout on Monday was testament to the respect he was held in by the Club.
In addition, the Club also made a donation of £500 to the Marie Curie Cancer charity.

11/7/21 Harriers Assist in Mountain Rescue

While out a recce run on Slieve Donard, for an upcoming hill race, three County Antrim Harriers, Sean Pagel, Claire Oliphant and Louise Smart, witnessed a walker take a bad fall.  On determining that the seriousness of the walkers injuries necessitated assistance from Mountain Rescue, the trio stayed with the walker, and their partner, until the Rescue Team arrived.

The Mourne Mountain Rescue Team social media post concerning the call-out stated “A note of thanks to the group of runners that stopped to assist the first casualty and provided initial help.”

10/7/21 Kris Makes a Splash

Huge respect to County Antrim Harrier, Kris Kelly, who swapped trainers for a wetsuit to swim across Belfast Lough (approx 5k!), as part of a Charity event organised by Carrickfergus Castle Triathlon.

7/7/21 CAH Trainer Donation

County Antrim Harriers were delighted to be able to assist Belfast Homeless Services, in some small way, in the great work they do – thanks to all members who donated trainers.
