{"id":6756,"date":"2025-04-14T10:34:04","date_gmt":"2025-04-14T09:34:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/countyantrimharriers.co.uk\/?p=6756"},"modified":"2025-04-14T10:34:44","modified_gmt":"2025-04-14T09:34:44","slug":"winter-2025-club-highlights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/countyantrimharriers.co.uk\/?p=6756","title":{"rendered":"Winter 2025 Club Highlights"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Despite the challenges brought by the weather and a lack of races this month, our members have still seen some fantastic achievements in <strong>January<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There was a <em>superb turnout<\/em> for the <strong>Race Over the Glens<\/strong>\u2014well done to all <strong>14 Harriers<\/strong> who took part!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A big congratulations to <strong>Irene Downey<\/strong> and <strong>Aaron Anderson<\/strong> for proudly representing the Club at the <strong>Mallusk Cross Country<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hats off to <strong>Claire Oliphant<\/strong>, who conquered a marathon as part of the <strong>We Run Wild&#8217;s January Blues event<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>February<\/strong> was a fantastic month for our Harriers, with milestone runs, cross-country challenges, and some impressive race performances. Here\u2019s a recap of all the action in order of events!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1st February \u2013 WeRunWild Rabbit Run, Ballypatrick Forest<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A <strong>chilly, windy morning<\/strong> greeted our Harriers at this tough new venue in Ballycastle. The undulating trails and strong headwinds made for a challenging course across the <strong>marathon, half-marathon, and 10K distances<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Suzanne Dickey<\/strong> \u2013 <strong>1st female finisher in the marathon!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2nd February \u2013 Malcolm Cup XC (Ormeau Park)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our Harriers battled through a <strong>muddy, energy-sapping course<\/strong> at Ormeau Park, where our club gazebo made a rare outing! The relatively flat course still provided plenty of challenges, but the <strong>spring sunshine<\/strong> helped lighten the mood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Everyone put in a fantastic effort over the <strong>3-mile (ladies) and 4-mile (gents) courses<\/strong>\u2014well done to all who took part!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>8th February \u2013 Born2Run Antrim<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A <strong>crisp but sunny<\/strong> morning saw our Harriers tackling the <strong>10K and 5K courses<\/strong> around Antrim Castle Grounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>10K PBs:<\/strong><br><strong>Michael Childs<\/strong><br><strong>Fiona Mitchell<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A great morning\u2019s running, with fantastic support from the team!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Parkrun Milestones<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congratulations to:<br><strong>Sarah Kinnear<\/strong> \u2013 <strong>50th milestone Parkrun<\/strong><br><strong>Rhonda Barkley<\/strong> \u2013 <strong>50th milestone Parkrun<\/strong><br><strong>Jonathan Bell<\/strong> \u2013 <strong>25th milestone Parkrun<\/strong><br><strong>Aaron Anderson<\/strong> \u2013 <strong>100th milestone Parkrun<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>8th February \u2013 Stormont XC<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Four of our Harriers took on the <strong>challenging 5K course<\/strong> at Stormont Estate, featuring <strong>three tough laps<\/strong> of climbs and descents. A strong performance from everyone in testing conditions!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>23rd February \u2013 London Winter 10K<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A massive <strong>well done to four of our Harriers<\/strong> who joined <strong>25,000 runners<\/strong> to take part in the <strong>London Winter 10K<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>March<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From the streets of Tokyo to the canals of Portadown, our Harriers have been smashing races all over the world (and right here at home). Here\u2019s the scoop:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tokyo Marathon \u2013 2nd March<\/strong><br><strong>Chris Hopkins<\/strong> braved the bustling streets of Tokyo and totally crushed it! Despite a few training niggles, Chris still finished strong with a big smile, surrounded by cheering crowds. What a legend!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Spar Craic 10K \u2013 17th March<\/strong><br>Saint Patrick\u2019s Day fun was in full swing as our fabulous squad raced through the streets of Belfast and around Ormeau Park. So many PBs and <strong>first-timers<\/strong> earning their 10K debut medals! Shoutout to: <strong>Chris Magill<\/strong> \u2013 PB!<strong> Michael Childs<\/strong> \u2013 PB!<strong>; Laura Deering<\/strong>, <strong>Melanie Parkinson<\/strong>, and <strong>Jen McGurgan<\/strong> \u2013 PBs &amp; Debuts!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Barcelona Marathon \u2013 16th March<\/strong><br><strong>Patrick McLain<\/strong> took on the sunny streets of Barcelona in one of the best-organized marathons around! From the city\u2019s iconic landmarks to coastal views, Barcelona did not disappoint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bentley Group Walled City 10-Mile Race \u2013 8th<\/strong> March<br>Six Harriers hit the scenic (and hilly!) roads of Londonderry\/Derry for this 10-mile race. The weather was warm, but the Harriers were <em>even hotter<\/em>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Portadown Half Marathon \u2013 23rd March<\/strong><br>Last but certainly not least, four Harriers took on the <strong>Portadown Half Marathon<\/strong>. With canal views and a tough headwind to battle, they pushed through to the finish line in style. Huge congratulations to <strong>Suzanne Dickey<\/strong> for her awesome new PB and <strong>Anna Small<\/strong> for completing her <strong>first ever half marathon<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And a big shoutout to <strong>Noreen Reid<\/strong> for hitting her 25th milestone run and <strong>Rachel Lloyd<\/strong> for smashing her 150th Parkrun!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>And last but certainly not least<\/strong>, a huge <strong>well done<\/strong> to our amazing team of volunteers for the <strong>Antrim Parkrun TAKEOVER<\/strong> on Saturday, March 29th!
